STAND WITH LETITIA

Dear Lucas,

I hope you're well and enjoying the last few days of summer. As a supporter of my campaign for New York City Public Advocate, I want to say again, first and foremost, how grateful I am for all of your efforts on my behalf. Your hard work and dedication have granted me the privilege to serve as your representative in City Hall, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

Since being sworn in, I've focused on the most exciting and vital function of the public advocate's office: to represent your interests, concerns, and ideas for how this city can better serve the needs of New Yorkers. Over the past few months, my office helped expand school lunches for New York City students; we've investigated and reported on accessibility problems at poll sites for New Yorkers with disabilities; we've drawn attention to lax punishment for sexual assaults in the city's subway system; we've called for a ban on so-called poor doors, to prevent developers from discriminating against tenants in affordable units; we've established an Immigration Task Force to provide pro bono legal counsel to unaccompanied minors facing expedited deportation; and, in the wake of the tragic death of Eric Garner, we've urged the city to equip police officers with body cameras to protect both them and the communities they serve.

But perhaps my most meaningful accomplishment has been to take these actions in consultation with New Yorkers from every corner of the city. Moving forward, I look forward to using this space to keep you informed about the work of my office and our efforts to build a city that works for all of us—but more importantly, this space is an opportunity for me to hear from you, to engage with you directly about the issues that concern you most. I encourage you to email me with your thoughts, suggestions, or any problems you think have been neglected or forgotten in the halls of city government. I want this to be a collaborative discussion, and I hope to keep in touch with you regularly over the coming years.

Finally, I will be sure to share multiple ways for you to continue to stand with me and my work in office. Whether it's volunteering for my campaign, attending an event, hosting a house party, or helping to spread the word on our initiatives and our message, you will continue to be an integral part of my success, and I hope to earn your continued support throughout my tenure as your public advocate. I'll be in touch, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Thanks again,
