Wow! My opponent just had a fundraiser hosted by Patton Boggs, a Washington DC law firm that lobbies on behalf of corporate giants including Wal-Mart, Total SA and Shell Oil. The firm has also represented Car Rove, Rep. Michele Bachmann, Rep. Michael Grimm and a who’s who of powerful interests who have betrayed the public’s trust.
For a candidate seeking the office of Public Advocate of New York City, it is troubling that my opponent would host a fundraiser at a lobbying firm that has aggressively sought to exploit low wage workers on behalf of Wal-Mart, weaken environmental standards on behalf of Big Oil, nuclear power, and coal polluters, privatize public transportation systems, and prey on hardworking New Yorkers trying to make ends meet.
It is extraordinarily inappropriate for a Democratic candidate for an office that is supposed to provide a voice for everyday New Yorkers to be so deeply entangled with a firm that has worked vigorously to undermine our progressive values – a firm that has repeatedly fought to allow anti-labor practices at all costs.
I’d rather raise money from small donors and real progressives, like you!
