EXCERPT - Comptroller John Liu‘s mayoral campaign may be limping along in the polls, but it’s still collecting endorsements. Yesterday, the New York City Sierra Club, which boasts 11,000 members, endorsed his candidacy. "The Sierra Club looks forward to John Liu’s tenure as Mayor," the organization proclaimed in a statement touting his environmental record.
WCBS: "Liu Wants Exxon To Release Info On Fracking; NYS Reaches Agreement With Cabot Oil" - 2/5/2013
EXCERPTS - "Fracking carries significant concerns about poisoned drinking water, toxic chemical leaks, and explosions," Liu told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb on Tuesday. "Here we’re saying with a billion dollars at stake in our pension funds in this company, we can’t sit by and allow them to say ‘Don’t worry. We got it covered,’" Liu said.
Liu and the funds want data about air emissions, complaints, and what’s being done to reduce the use of potentially harmful chemicals underground. "New York City pension funds have a long history of engaging corporations to do the right thing and that’s precisely what we’re doing here. We’re asking them to do the right thing," Liu said.

EXCERPT - New York City Comptroller John Liu on Friday proposed borrowing $407 million through a new bond program to remove dangerous toxins from public schools. Proceeds from the sale of the bonds, which would be called Green Apple Bonds, would be used to strip polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, from old lighting fixtures by 2015. That would be six years earlier than the Department of Education's existing plan to remove PCB-carrying light fixtures in 772 buildings by 2021.

John C. Liu (D), who lives in Queens, has consistently opposed a stadium plan for the park, most recently at a candidates’ forum in June. In explaining his position, he said that "scarce public space" should be kept accessible to the public and argued against privatization of parkland.
