49½ HOURS

Suspected of murdering his lover, James Guilford was questioned for more than two full days by the Syracuse Police Department before he uttered words which--according to our state's highest court--were part of a coerced confession.

The New York State Court of Appeals viewed the entire process as so constitutionally deficient (and lacking the requisite degree of voluntariness) that even 8-hour break in the questioning process wasn't enough to make the suspect's statements admissible against him.
