200,000 KIDS WILL LOSE FREE SCHOOL MEALS

Dear Lucas,

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed legislation that would cut nearly $40 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps). This measure would force at least 4 million Americans facing hunger off SNAP and cause more than 200,000 kids to lose access to free school meals.

Please help support our efforts to protect our Nation's kids.

To make matters worse, this legislation comes when SNAP households are already preparing to see a cut in benefits in November, one that will mean approximately 20 fewer meals per month for a family of four.

SNAP is our nation’s most powerful and effective tool for combating childhood hunger and has been proven to reduce poverty. At a time when nearly 50% of SNAP participants are children, cutting this program has major ramifications for the health and well-being of our nation’s kids.

These cuts reinforce the critical importance of our work to ensure that children have access to the food they need.

This legislation comes just months before every single SNAP household will already see a cut in their monthly benefits of about $36/month for a family of four.

It's not too late. So far this year our network has sent over 35,000 letters to Congress about the importance of SNAP, our advocates have had meetings with more than 100 legislative offices, and we have no plans of stopping now. There is still time to stand up and demand that Congress protects the critical programs that are so important for hungry children. But we need your support.

Can we count on your help to make No Kid Hungry a reality?

Thanks for all you do for our nation’s hungry kids.

Sincerely,

Billy Shore
