YOUNG TURK

Macomb Town Court Justice Lafayette Young got called on the carpet by the state's Commission on Judicial Conduct for engaging in multiple acts of "misconduct"--for allegedly failing to remove himself from cases involving a "paramour's" relatives.

During the course of his seven-year tenure, Young heard at least six cases involving his girlfriend's family, all without disclosing his association to counsel for the opposing parties.

After the Commission recommended that he be removed from office, Young asked the Court of Appeals to reject that determination because he hadn't been dealing with people who were related to him by blood or marriage.

Citing a rule which requires judges to remove themselves from cases where their "impartiality might reasonably be questioned," our state's highest court was of the view Young had "misused" his office and had engaged in conduct which impugned his "integrity and impartiality."

The good die young.
