END OF THE ROAD

The Village of Bayville claimed that "Travelled Way," a dirt road on property owned by Ronald and Margaret Marchand, was a public street, and both the Nassau County Supreme Court and Appellate Division, Second Department, agreed.

But when the dispute reached our state's highest court, the case took a decidedly different turn. Since the Village never accepted repair and maintenance responsibility, the Court of Appeals didn't think the road ever became "public."

That sure didn't travel well.
