CURBSIDE PARKING: A MUNICIPAL TREASURE

LIU STATEMENT ON CITY PARKING

City Comptroller John C. Liu stated the following yesterday on City parking:

"City Hall is making the right call in abandoning its plan to privatize the City's parking meters. As I pointed out when this proposal first came to light, curbside parking is a municipal treasure that is hugely profitable for the City, thanks to the good work of the employees who maintain our parking system. Outsourcing to a private corporation would've led to higher meter rates, so it's good news that New York City will retain control of its parking system."
