Lucas,
The Republican Majority in the House of Representatives right now is possibly the most conservative and obstructionist one ever, blocking and hacking away at commonsense legislation that has a long tradition of bipartisan support.
It's time for reasonable people to push back and have our voices heard.
The Violence Against Women Act passed the House almost unanimously in 2005. Today, it's been allowed to expire under this very conservative House Majority.
Whether as an ICU nurse or as a voice for gun violence victims, I've dedicated much of my life to saving lives in our country. The same goes for my support for the Violence Against Women's Act, a bill that helps prevent and assist victims in cases of rape, domestic violence and stalking.
It's unfortunate that this is even a matter of debate, but it's important that we make legislative leaders do the right thing. Pass this message along to people you know, and thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Carolyn
