HOW TAXING

When the New York County Supreme Court vacated an arbitration award which had ended Terri Patterson's employment with the New York City Department of Education, the City appealed and the Appellate Division, First Department, reversed.

Because Terri used a "false" Albany address to avoid paying New York City income taxes for some three years, the AD1 thought that the arbitrator's determination had been appropriate, particularly given Terri's purported lack of remorse.

(And notwithstanding Terri's pristine employment history, and the small sum of money involved, the appellate court didn't find the outcome "shocking" to its sense of fairness.)

That certainly saddened us.
