SCHUMER, GILLIBRAND, TONKO ANNOUNCE ALMOST $2 MILLION FOR ALBANY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
FAA Awards will be Used to Improve Airport Storage Facilities
U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Paul Tonko today announced $1,984,358 in federal funding has been awarded to the Albany International Airport for construction of a sand and chemical storage building. The funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.
“I am pleased to add this two million dollar grant to the list of ‘arrivals’ at Albany International Airport,” said Senator Schumer. “The funding will help Albany International airport improve their storage facilities, increase efficiency, and better serve passengers flying in and out of the Capital region.”
“This is a smart and important investment for Albany International Airport,”Senator Gillibrand said. “With improved sand storage, we’ll be better prepared to respond to winter storms and snow to help keep runways safe and clear, keep more flights on time, and the Capital Region on the move.”

“This project is essential to support the winter season requirement for runway friction materials, which are critical to maintain our excellent safety record at Albany International Airport,” said John O’Donnell, CEO of Albany International Airport.
The federal funding for Albany International Airport will specifically be used to construct a new sand and chemical storage facility, to house necessary materials for flight operations.
