We've got days left until election day, and I am asking you to get involved in one of the most contested and important races in the entire country. In New York's 18th Congressional District, my friend Sean Patrick Maloney is running to unseat Tea Party Congresswoman Nan Hayworth. I invite you to join me and my dear friend Democratic Minority Whip Steny Hoyer at a luncheon for Sean this Wednesday at 12 noon at my home.
I need Sean fighting with me on the House floor to protect the middle class, and because another Maloney in Congress would double the size of the Maloney Caucus.
This race is important because it could be the victory that gives Democrats control of the House of Representatives again. New York is a battleground state with regard to the House, and the battles don't get much more hard-fought than the one in NY-18.
But this race is also important because of the candidates involved. Sean Patrick Maloney has been endorsed by the New York Times. Sean is a fighter for the middle class with experience in public service and the private sector. He was a senior advisor in President Bill Clinton's White House, and after he helped balance the budget and create 800,000 jobs right here in New York, he started his own successful business.
His Tea Party opponent, Nan Hayworth, "has tried to cast herself as a moderate, particularly on women's issues…yet she has favored limiting contraception coverage for employees and voted to defund Planned Parenthood" according to the New York Times.
