BE PATIENT. BE PERSISTENT. VOTE

Bill de Blasio: Public Advocate for the City of New York

Dear Friends,

We've never faced an Election Day like this. I urge every New Yorker, especially those affected by this terrible storm, to find a way to make it to the polls tomorrow. Be patient. Be persistent. Vote.

Moments ago Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order to allow voters who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy to cast ballots at any poll site using an "affidavit ballot." This is an important step to protect the voting rights of thousands of New Yorkers impacted by this horrible storm.

Voters should still make every effort to go to their designated poll site. The downside of casting an affidavit ballot at an out-of-district poll site is that your vote may not count in some local races.

Because of damage to schools and other public buildings, roughly 143,000 voters have been assigned to new polling sites in recent days. Please be sure to verify your poll site before you go to vote. You can do so by texting "NYCVOTES" to 877-877 and following the prompts or you can visit the Board of Elections poll site locator at http://gis.nyc.gov/vote/ps/index.htm

Please be aware that poll sites in areas severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy are subject to last-minute changes so if you have trouble voting tomorrow, call the Board of Elections' voter hotline at 866-VOTE-NYC.

Poll sites will be open from 6 A.M. to 9 P.M. If you have any questions or problems, you can reach my office's hotline at 212.669-7250 or you can email GetHelp@pubadvocate.nyc.gov.

Thanks,

Bill de Blasio
NYC Public Advocate
