Along with so many other newspapers across the entire State, the Buffalo News has now strongly supported Governor Cuomo's reform plan presented in his State of the State and Budget messages. The editorial begins by talking about its importance to the Buffalo area and then goes on to discuss other great ideas the Governor has proposed to tackle some of the most difficult issues facing our State.
For decades now, public officials have been promising to assist Western New York, the area in our State that has been hardest hit by tough economic conditions and a changing industrial landscape. But nobody has done anything. And because of that neglect, our entire state is weakened.
Now finally, Governor Cuomo is doing something. As part of his comprehensive statewide economic development strategy, he proposes to offer up to a $1 billion incentive package to industries that invest and create jobs in Buffalo. His goal is to spur $5 billion in private investment in the area. The success of this plan will aid the entire State as it will produce new jobs, new tax revenues and bring new businesses to our State.
