A WORLD WITHOUT TOBACCO

world_tobacco_2011_photo1_nyreblog_com_.gifJoin us in celebrating World No Tobacco Day --an annual event sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness worldwide about one of the biggest public health threats.

According to WHO:

  • Tobacco kills up to half of its users.
  • In fact, it kills more than five million people a year - an average of one person every six seconds - and accounts for one in 10 adult deaths.
  • The annual death toll of more than five million could rise to more than eight million by 2030 unless urgent action is taken to control the tobacco epidemic.

Celebrate World No Tobacco Day

On May 31, join FDA and countries around the world to observe World No Tobacco Day, which highlights the health risks associated with tobacco use.

In support of this important day, we urge you to quit using cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, and to encourage others to quit using tobacco products. Visit resources to help you quit and Smokefree.gov for free, accurate, evidence-based information and professional assistance.

We are working to reduce the public health burden of tobacco use. We envision making tobacco-related death and disease part of America's past, not America's future. Quitting smoking greatly reduces serious health risks, and smokeless tobacco is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.
