RENT REGULATIONS ARE OVER

kellner_assembly_banner_nyreblog_com_.gifSpecial Update on Rent Regulations

Dear Friends,

As many of you may know, the State Senate allowed our rent regulations to expire yesterday. These laws - that protect seniors and the middle class - are vital. They stabilize our communities and maintain affordable housing in New York.

I have worked tirelessly with my colleagues in the Assembly to pass legislation that would both renew and strengthen our rent laws. However, the Republicans in the State Senate have listened to the special interests and have refused to work with us to protect our tenants. I will remain in Albany to fight for our community until a real deal has been reached.

If you are a rent regulated tenant, I want to assure you that your rights have not changed - your lease remains in full effect until the end of its term. New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR), the agency that oversees all rent stabilized and rent controlled leases, has established a 24 hour toll free hotline (855) 391-4526 to accept tenant complaints of illegal conduct by owners.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your lease, rights as a tenant, or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (212) 860-4906.

Very truly yours,

Micah Z. Kellner
Assembly Member
