COMPTROLLER LIU APPOINTS DEPUTY COMPTROLLER FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
NEW YORK, NY - Yesterday, New York City Comptroller John C. Liu announced the appointment of Alan van Capelle as his Deputy Comptroller for External Affairs.
"The major functions of the Comptroller's Office are now all in the hands of outstanding Deputy Comptrollers with whom John Liu will work closely," Carl McCall, former New York State Comptroller and Chair of Comptroller Liu's Transition Committee, said. "Alan's exceptional energy and professionalism will no doubt enhance Comptroller Liu's already-formidable leadership team. His proven commitment to equality and justice will amplify the Comptroller's own vision and priorities for the Office."
As Deputy Comptroller for External Affairs, Alan van Capelle will serve as a chief advisor to Comptroller Liu on all matters involving public policy, intergovernmental relations, media and community, as well as managing communications to various stakeholders.

Alan van Capelle's seven year tenure marks him as the longest-serving Executive Director of the Empire State Pride Agenda and Empire State Pride Agenda Foundation. He is credited for nearly tripling the Pride Agenda's budget under his leadership, mobilizing coalitions across the State in support of the organization's public policy objectives, and successfully driving the organization to the forefront of a national movement.
Prior to joining the Pride Agenda, Alan van Capelle worked for nearly ten years with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ.
Alan van Capelle will officially start on March 1, 2010. He will join Comptroller Liu's team of Deputies currently consisting of First Deputy Eric Eve, Simcha Felder (accountancy and budget), Tina Kim (audit), Carol Kostik (public finance), Ricardo Morales (legal affairs, General Counsel), Larry Schloss (pensions, Chief Investment Officer), Geneith Turnbull (contracts and procurement).
