HYPOCRITE OF THE WEEK

dccc_logo_nyreblog_com_.jpgLucas --

Things are moving fast.

In just 2 days the final FEC fundraising deadline of the year will hit and we're just $67,234 short of our $250,000 fundraising goal.

We must exceed this goal. All of Washington will read our total as an indication of our strength and determination to take back the Majority in the House of Representatives.

Nearly 75% of our revenue comes from individual Democrats like you. But, Republicans are filling their campaign war chests with corporate cash from K Street lobbyists and Wall Street types before they even take office next week. Freshmen Republicans are holding big-ticket fundraisers at $2,500 a pop and up with their favorite special interest lobbyist in restaurants and hotels all around Washington. We need to have a strong showing at our Year-End FEC reporting deadline and say their fat cat money is no match for our people-powered movement.

Contribute before Friday's deadline and help put us over the top. Hitting our goal is so important your contribution will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of generous Democrats.

I wonder what their tea party supporters would say about the ease with which Republicans switch from anti-Washington populist to lobbyist lapdog.

That's why I am happy to bring to you the latest edition of @Stake - with just a small preview of the antics we can expect from the GOP led Congress s and of course yet another example of Republican hypocrites in action.

Republican Hypocrite of the Week

There are so many outrageous Republican hypocrites that it's hard to chose just one but this week - we think Rep-elect Joe Walsh of Illinois deserves a nomination!

New reports this weekend reveal that Representative-elect Joe Walsh (IL-08) believes government has done TOO MUCH for the middle class, YET he's hired a financial services lobbyist to be his Chief of Staff and is welcoming contributions from Wall Street titan JP Morgan. Walsh ran as an anti-government outsider but is now embracing Wall Street's agenda and argues that government takes "care of too many in the middle class."

Voters are getting a crash course in how out-of-touch Representative-elect Joe Walsh really is after he hired a Wall Street lobbyist to run his office and said there are too many government programs, like Social Security and the Department of Education, that benefit the middle class. When Representative-elect Walsh says that government has done too much for the middle class it must warm the heart of his Wall Street staff and special interest donors - but it leaves Illinois families out in the cold. Hiring a Wall Street lobbyist as Chief of Staff is the best evidence yet that Walsh's agenda will be driven by Wall Street's needs, not the needs of the middle class.

Know another GOP Hypocrite? Nominate them and let us know what you think the latest GOP hypocrite or outrage of the week should be!

Republicans' Latest Target: Clean Air!

With just a small preview of what's in store when Republicans take over next week, one thing is clear Republicans in the next Congress are obviously set on limiting the Environmental Protection Agency's authority under the Clean Air Act! According to a recent New York Times editorial, that means "even if it means denying the agency money to run its programs and chaining its administrator, Lisa Jackson, to the witness stand. Fred Upton, who will become the next chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, says he plans to call Ms. Jackson so often for questioning that he'll guarantee her a permanent parking space on Capitol Hill."

You can join our fight to make sure that we let the Republicans know we want them to keep moving America forward on Clean Air initiatives. Sign our petition today to add your voice.

The Best Defense is a Strong Offense

Our new chairman, Steve Israel, has built a powerful candidate recruitment team and is already hard at work identifying strong candidates for the 2012 campaign. With just 25 seats standing between Democrats and our House Majority, we're pulling out all the stops to get the job done.

Our early analysis of the 2012 map indicates a target rich environment. There are 61 seats that President Obama won in 2008 which now have a Republican Congressman. And, of those, 14 seats were won by Senator Kerry in 2004 - that's more than half of what we need to pick-up to take the Majority.

I know we'll get the job done, but we need you with us to get us off to a strong start next year. We can't fall behind Republican fundraising efforts and give them a head start with their repeal and rollback agenda.

Don't forget Midnight Friday is your last chance to make a contribution to the DCCC this year and have it matched dollar-for-dollar.

Contribute before Midnight Friday and have your gift matched dollar-for-dollar.

Thank you again for your support of House Democrats and stay tuned for more updates from @Stake!
