bloomberg_mayor_close-up_headshot_nyreblog_com_.jpgSTATEMENT OF MAYOR BLOOMBERG ON THE DEVASTATING FLOODS IN THE PHILIPPINES AND VIETNAM
The following are the Mayor's remarks delivered this morning in the Blue Room of City Hall, which streamed live on www.nyc.gov and was fed live on CTY-3:

"I just wanted to express our deepest condolences to the people of the Philippines and Vietnam, and also to the many New Yorkers who have relatives and loved ones who may have been affected by the recent typhoon and floods there. These really are terrible tragedies and our hearts do go out to all of those who have suffered as a result. So far the combined death toll in these two nations is reported to now be more than 300, and many in those countries believe that the toll may well rise. Disasters such as this give people the impetus to try to help and the best way to do that is with cash donations that relief workers can use on the scene. And so those who want to make donations can call 311 and be directed to the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and we will make sure that the donations get to the right hands. Somehow or other that makes City problems seem- puts them in perspective."
