Big news - the New York League of Conservation Voters has endorsed Eric Gioia for Public Advocate! The League of Conservation Voters is one of New York's leading environmental organizations, with a proud record of protecting the environment and promoting a sustainable future.
Here's what Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, had to say in making the endorsement:
"New York City needs elected leaders who can meet today's environmental challenges and lay the foundation for a cleaner, greener future. Over the last seven and a half years in the City Council, Eric Gioia has amassed a long and successful record of fighting for clean air, clean water and a healthier city. We are confident that New York's environment will benefit even more from his leadership in a citywide role. It's not enough just to talk a good game about protecting our environment - we need leaders at City Hall who can solve problems and get things done. That's what Eric Gioia has done to make our city more clean and green:
- Suing Exxon Mobil to clean up the biggest urban oil spill in North America
- Cracking down on diesel trucks and buses that make asthma rates worse
- Creating parkland and green space, and opening up the waterfront for all New Yorkers to enjoy
And just this week, Eric introduced new legislation in the City Council to reduce greenhouse emissions caused by political campaigns, a bill that advocates called a "concrete, common sense proposal that should be adopted and supported by all Council members."
