Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Endorses

Bill Thompson for Mayor

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) today endorsed Bill Thompson for Mayor.  RWDSU, which represents approximately 45,000 workers in New York City, cited Bill's commitment to New York's working families among their reasons for supporting his mayoral bid.

"Bill Thompson has spent his entire life demonstrating that government can be made to work for working people," said Stuart Appelbaum, RWDSU President. "And just as Bill Thompson has always stood up for working New Yorkers, this year working families in New York are going to stand up for Bill Thompson."

For the past eight years, the Bloomberg Administration has been focused on those at the top - the wealthy, developers and Wall Street. Bill Thompson was raised in Brooklyn, he attended our City's public schools, and he understands the challenges working New Yorkers face because he's faced them too. As Mayor, Bill will work to deal with these challenges by creating quality, long-term jobs, effectively addressing the issues in our City's public education system, expanding access to affordable housing, and taking the tax burden off of middle and working class families.

"It is an honor to have earned the endorsement of RWDSU," said Bill Thompson. "For the past eight years, New York's working families have been ignored. It's time that we make our middle and working class men and women a priority again. I look forward to having RWDSU's support over the coming months as we work to bring new leadership to City Hall."

Bill has also earned the endorsement of the Transportation Workers Union, Allied International Union, Associated Musicians of Greater New York, Local 802 AFM, CWA District One, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 808, Local 94 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, the International Association of Machinists District 15, as well as the endorsement and ballot line of the Working Families Party.
