THOMPSON STATEMENT ON SONIA SOTOMAYOR CONFIRMATION
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate approved Sonia Sotomayor's nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court.
"Today's confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor as the first Latina Supreme Court Justice is a historic and proud day for our country.
Her talents in interpreting the law and her many years on the bench provide a wealth of experience that will be an asset to the Court.
With Justice Sotomayor's addition to the Supreme Court, our highest court will more accurately reflect the diversity of our great country. Her confirmation also brings hope to future generations who will see that achieving the American Dream is possible.
As a New Yorker, I am especially proud that our city has produced such a talented individual that has reached our highest court."
