| | Join the YWCA of Brooklyn for A Mother's Day Weekend Walk with Green-Wood's Great Women
Saturday, May 10, 2008 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Come join us for a walk through Green-Wood Cemetery learning about some of the most colorful and influential women of the 19th and early 20th century who lie buried here, in a beautiful park overlooking NY harbor and the Statue of Liberty from the highest point in Brooklyn.
Note-worthy women include: the reproductive health activist Margaret Sanger; the actress Laura Keene, who was on stage when Lincoln was shot; the first African-American women doctor in NY Susan Smith McKinney-Steward; abolitionist Abigail Gibbons; artists; and many women famous and notorious in their time.
Walk through the beautiful hills of Green-Wood, filled with trees, flowering shrubs, lakes, sculpture and buildings designed by the leading architects of their time.
Our guide will be Ruth Edebohls, a licensed New York City Tour Guide and experienced staff member of the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment with a special interest in Green-Wood Cemetery.
To join us, meet at the Gothic Arch inside the entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue.
Take the R train to 25th street and walk up one block to the cemetery. Wear good walking shoes!Please note: Rain date is May 17.
