Since there is a low tolerance for drug-trafficking, tenants who allow their apartments to be used for drug sales are subject to eviction.

By way of example, in Royal Charter Properties, Inc. v. Vidal, police entered an apartment and recovered "over 100 individually wrapped bags of marijuana, a safe, heat sealer, small digital scale and numerous empty zip-lock bags."

Deferring to an officer's assessment that these drugs had been "packaged for sale," the New York County Civil Court directed that the tenant be evicted from the unit. 

Finding that the evidence supported the trial court's findings that the apartment had been utilized as a "focal point of illegal drug activities and the tenant 'knew or should have known of the activities and acquiesced therein,'" the Appellate Term, First Department, affirmed the eviction.

Just goes to show -- contrary to popular mythology -- cannabis can hurt you.
