The Food Drive Effort Will Bring Hunger Relief to 509,000 Brooklynites Who Depend On Emergency Food

 

May 4 - 9, Drop Off Non-Perishable Foods Items at Your Local Post Office!

 

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host the kickoff of Brooklyn's Stamp Out Hunger! campaign on Friday, May 1st at Noon, at Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, as part of the country's largest food drive effort to bring hunger relief to millions of Americans. Joining the Borough President will be Áine Duggan, VP of Research, Policy, and Education for the Food Bank For New York City; Vito J. Cetta, USPS Triboro District Manager; Joseph Chiossone, Postmaster, Brooklyn, NY; Angelo Mangano, President, Branch 41, National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC); Brooklyn letter carriers; and members of the Harlem Globetrotters -- Hot Shot Branch and Apollo Fraser. Together, they will make the first donations of non-perishable food items and kick off Stamp Out Hunger! Brooklyn

 

The group is making an urgent plea to all Brooklynites to help Stamp Out Hunger! in Brooklyn from May 4 - 9 by making a delivery of non-perishable food items such as canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice, at their local post office.  All food donations will be repacked by the Food Bank and redistributed to community and emergency food programs to help families in need.  There are 320 emergency food programs in Brooklyn, which is 31 percent of the approximately 1,026 emergency food programs in New York City

 

The Food Bank For New York City is the major provider of food to New Yorkers in need. Approximately half of all New York City residents are having difficulty affording food.
